CUCUMBER, SUMTER

(Organic) The most popular pickling cucumber for pickles of all sizes. Very productive. About 6 inches long when fully grown. The straight, symmetrical fruit has an attractive color and firm, tender, tasty flesh. This packet will plant approximately 20 hills.

PLANTING INSTRUCTIONS

In full sun, sow 5 seeds over a hill 12 inches tall and 2 feet across with well-drained soil. For smaller gardens, plant alongside fence or trellis. When plants are 2 inches tall, thin to 3 plants per hill. Plant at 3 week intervals up to midsummer for fresh cucumbers all season. Keep fruits picked.

PLANTING INFO/DIRECTIONS

Plant cucumber seed only after all danger of frost is past and ground is warm. They need lots of sunshine and water. Keep weeds to a minimum with a straw or leaf mulch.

BROCCOLI, GREEN SPROUTING CALABRESE

(Organic) A dark-green, close beaded bluish green central head that is high in vitamins. The large head also furnishes an abundance of side shoots. A cool weather vegetable low in calories. This packet will plant approximately a 50 foot row.

PLANTING INSTRUCTIONS

Start seed indoors 6-8 weeks before last killing frost in spring. Or, sow 2-3 seeds together outdoors every 2 feet. Thin to 1 plant every 2 feet when 1 inch tall. Keep watered and fertilized. Cut before buds open for best harvest.

PLANTING INFO/DIRECTIONS

Broccoli is a good producer again when planted in summer for fall harvest until frost. For a low calorie side dish, broccoli is delicious with lemon juice.

PLANTING INSTRUCTIONS

In full sun and well drained soil, sow 3 seeds per inch in the row. Cover seeds firmly with soil. When plants are 2 inches tall, thin to 2 inches apart in the row. For fresh carrots all season, plant every 3 weeks until 75 days before first fall frost.

Too much water can cause carrots to crack. They should be kept weeded (a clean mulch can reduce this job). Also, place soil lightly over exposed roots to prevent cracking.

EGGPLANT, EARLY LONG PURPLE

(Organic) Fruits are long, slightly bulbous. Deepen to rich purple near maturity. The slender fruits are meaty and easy to slice. Very prolific. Low in calories and high in vitamins A, C and the B group. This packet will plant apprximately a 60 foot row.

Start seeds indoors in warm, sunny location 8-10 weeks befor transplanting outdoors. Wait 3 weeks after frost to transplant outside. Or, in warmer climates, sow directly in garden. Note: Eggplant requires full sun and rich, fertile, well-drained soil.

You can tell when eggplant is ripe by its glossy purple look. Harvest fruits while still shiny. Cut from the stem with a knife.

After all danger of frost, in a sunny location, sow five seeds spaced evenly over a hill 9 to 12 inches tall and 2 feet across. When plants are 3 inches tall, thin to the 3 strongest seedlings per hill. To avoid weeding, mulch heavily around plants and in the rows.

PLANTING INSTRUCTIONS

Start seeds indoors in a sunny location 6 weeks prior to warm weather. Transplant outdoors in full sun when seedlings display 4-6 leaves and weather is warm.
